Key Responsibilities
  • Lead clinical operations team in the assigned country/ies or functional group, ensure all trial related activities and deliverables from feasibility to study closure are met, fulfilling medical and regulatory strategy under adequate quality standards, timelines and budget.
  • Evaluate team´s performance and implement appropriate development plans, ensure appropriate resource planning based on forecast workload, including appropriate use of flexible resources/applying resourcing strategy.
  •  Conduct budget review and adjustment as needed, ensure adequate budget for local evidence generation activities is forecasted and budget is adequately managed.
  • Implement appropriate oversight process/procedures to detect emerging risks, appropriate intervention to address trends and issues that could impact delivery to plan for timelines, quality and budget of studies. Ensure timely escalation to Head of Medical & Clinical Operations or other impacted roles.
  • Provide input to clinical development plans to ensure adequate feasibility and effective study delivery taking into account strategy/objectives.
  • Maintain close cross-functional interaction with other local departments to ensure alignment of country clinical operations strategy.
  • Establish and maintain an adequate network of clinical investigator sites aligned with current and future indications,
  • Provide clinical operations leadership in interaction with stakeholders (internal and external) including participation in different forums (internal and external).
  • Establish and manage key strategic relationships with external vendors to ensure clinical studies are appropriately outsourced and executed as necessary.
People management
  • Lead a team of clinical operations staff, which may include Project Directors/Managers, CRAs and associated support staff.
  • Mentor and coach direct reports to ensure their delivery of assigned tasks to agreed timelines, quality standards and budget. 
  • Performance management and people development for direct reports (competency assessments, performance and development objectives and ongoing review)
  • Allocate resources and ensure appropriate workload distribution within the team.
Recommended Education and Key Competency
 
Education:
  • Minimum Level of Education: Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or equivalent.
  • Preferred Level of Education: Masters or PhD preferred;
Key Experience:
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in the Pharmaceutical, Biotech or Healthcare Industry with an emphasis on vaccines/drug development, in a multidisciplinary environment and with demonstrated managerial experience.
Preferred experience:
  • Study/ Team management experience in Vaccine area
  • Study management experience for multiple countries study
  • Global pharmaceutical company/ biotech/ global CRO working experience
  • Superior leadership skills with demonstrated ability to build and maintain highly efficient teams in complex environments
Competency:
  • Superior communication and relationship skills
  • In depth knowledge of vaccine/drug development process; preferably of vaccines development
  • Superior analytical skills and ability to think / frame problems strategically
  • Independent and pro-active individual able to implement adequate responses to situations without guidance; self-motivated and able to motivate and guide others
  • Able to work in ambiguous circumstances and take actions quickly while involving the right stakeholders in the right situation at the right time.
