Our client is a leading banking and financial services group, employer of choice and one of Australia's largest employers. They currently have an urgent requirement for an experienced Senior Tax Manager to join initially on a contract basis but with potential to go permanent.

Reporting into the Head of Tax, you will focus on minimising tax risk associated with business activities. Whilst the focus is on the assessment and review of business activities and how these should be structured in order to leverage from current & future tax legislation, you will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements. 

Specific deliverables will include:
  • Providing tax advice - review current and future transactions to ensure the tax impact of each transaction is actually identified and addressed prior to sign-off.
  • Statutory returns - review returns for business areas. Ensure all key tax issues are identified and addressed prior to sign-off by Head of Tax and lodgement to ATO.
  • Relationship Management - establish and manage working relationship with business managers. Increase own understanding of business drivers and gain involvement in transactions from conception through to closure. Provide guidance and clarity on the tax treatment of transactions.
  • Risk Management - review proposals applying established the Group's Risk Management framework. Ensure proposals present an acceptable risk to the Bank and the Customer, and that they meet current tax requirements. Escalate unresolved issues to Head of Tax 
  • People Management - manage reporting team, setting clear objectives and providing appropriate training and career development opportunities

Required skills and experience:
  • Degree in accounting or law
  • CA/CPA admission
  • Second degree/ Masters in related discipline
  • Legal practitioner
  • 10+ years tax experience gained in a banking or large financial services group
  • Extensive knowledge of taxation law, regulations & impact & obligations.
  • Ability to apply advanced risk management techniques.
  • Identify & advise on tax issues/changes impacting organisation.
  • Compliance experience
  • Experience in new product development & structured transactions.
