This role would suit someone who comes from a governance, co-sec legal type background who wants to gain exposure to working on the BEAR within an international bank. A key thing to mention here is having existing experience within BEAR is desirable but is not essential at all. It would be a great opportunity for a governance professional to gain that experience on their CV for an international bank with a big presence in Australia.

Responsibilities and
Accountabilities
  • Executing the BEAR Framework and Strategy and actively driving and implementing any successor regime
  • Designing and rolling out activities to monitor adherence with the BEAR Framework
  • Developing and enhancing the suite of tools and templates required to further implement and embed the BEAR Framework
  • Identifying challenges, gaps or issues and proactively raise these with senior stakeholders, working through solutions and monitoring and reporting on solutions
  • Providing advice and guidance to Accountable Persons and personnel in key business areas
  • Developing the BEAR Office as a centre of excellence.
  • Developing and providing training on BEAR to senior stakeholders
  • Developing and providing BEAR reporting.
  • Supporting Accountable Persons to develop and manage executive reporting and KPIs to evidence their accountability.
  • Managing registration of new Accountable Persons, Development of new Accountability Statements and facilitating changes to Accountability Statements and Maps.
  • Proactively monitoring the BEAR regulatory landscape and analysing impacts of new and amended legislation, regulation and APRA guidance on BEAR and providing reporting to executives and Board as relevant.
  • Engaging regularly with the senior stakeholders including risk champions
  • Managing projects and other key initiatives as required
  • Identifying opportunities to improve and enhance Governance related reporting
  • Working with the business to identify any gaps within the current governance framework and processes
  • Supporting the business in the implementation of new governance initiatives
  • Assisting in Board and Governance Reviews as required
  • Developing, reviewing, maintaining and updating governance related documentation, templates, Standards and processes as required
  • Providing corporate governance advice on a range of issues
  • Providing support on governance matters
Skills & Experience
  • 7+ years working with a legal/governance roles ideally within banking
  • Good understanding of the current legal, regulatory and complinace environment within banking and financial services in Australia
  • Excellent stakeholder management, coaching and influencing skills - you will be interacting with senior executives across the bank and gaining their trust
  • Excellent board level reporting writing skills
