Our client a leading NSW Government Department are looking for a Prosecutions Officer to join their team on a 6 month contract with potential for extension.

The role is responsible for the prosecution of the Organisations court matters and providing representation in all classes of administrative appeals to meet the business objectives of the Branch and the legislative requirements of the client.
 
Key accountabilities
  • Represent the Organisation as a prosecutor in all classes of court matters, sentencing, and conviction and administrative appeals, brought in the Local District Court, including prosecuting certain breaches of legislation, ensuring consistent compliance with professional standards.
  • Establish the sufficiency of evidence for prosecutions and appeals by analysing and reviewing briefs of evidence and informing the Manager relating to any deficiencies
  • Contribute to developing stakeholder relationships, including in the Organisations policy and enforcement areas, by identifying and escalating issues, participating in project teams to exchange information, and ensuring the consistency of processes.
  • Contribute to ongoing improvement strategies by reporting court results and providing legal feedback to relevant Organisations policy and enforcement areas, including recommendations for policy, processes, or legislation improvement
  • Contribute to the delivery of business outcomes through the accurate and timely recording of court case results and information into relevant systems.
  • Ensure ongoing learning and development by developing specialist knowledge of legislation, policy, legal practice and procedures, and professional skills.
Key knowledge and experience
  • Demonstrated extensive knowledge of the laws of evidence and legislation administered in regulated organisation.
  • Demonstrated experience as an advocate in local courts or similar environments, with a thorough knowledge of prosecution and administrative appeal processes, the working of the local court and general legal procedures.
