Our client, a leading NSW Government Department are looking for an Accountant to join their team until the end of the year, there may be potential for an extension.

Primary purpose of the role
The Accountant is responsible for providing a broad range of financial management services in order to meet internal and external reporting requirements, statutory compliance requirements and support the achievement of the Organisations business requirements.

Key accountabilities

  • Balance legislative and accounting standard compliance with the achievement of business needs in line with the clients Business Principles by implementing and monitoring financial policies, guidelines and business rules.
  • Prepare financial data inputs and commentary to produce reliable and robust financial information; including financial statements, Treasury submissions and inputs to Audit & Risk Committee Meeting papers.
  • Provide financial analysis to ensure integrity of financial data or identify risk areas.
  • Support achievement of business outcomes by providing sound accounting advice and direction to stakeholders.
  • Prepare briefings and options papers on technical matters for consideration by Senior Managers.
  • Contribute to the achievement of financial management business outcomes by participating and/or leading project teams, annual and business improvement projects
  • Understand the customer’s focus and business drivers and be able to interpret the impact of financial decisions and policy on the customer.
Key challenges
  • Preparation of accurate and complete financial information and analysis that meets legislative, Treasury and Statutory requirements.
  • Achieve deadlines and produce financial output in collaboration with a range of stakeholders, often with competing needs and priorities.
  • Continuing improvement and enhancement of financial information, system, outputs and procedures.
Essential requirements
  • Tertiary qualifications in financial management and accounting and professional membership with either the CPA Australia (CPA) or the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ).
  • Demonstrated experience working in a complex financial management environment including financial analysis, reporting, and financial statement preparation in line with legislative and other requirements.
  • Demonstrated success participating in a variety of finance projects, prioritising, and meeting expected timelines.
  • Demonstrated personal contributions to business process or reporting improvements.
