Ethos BeathChapman has been exclusively retained to appoint a senior Financial Crime Risk professional to a high-profile second line leadership role within a major Australian financial services organisation.
Working closely with executive stakeholders, business leaders and major change programs, you will play a key role shaping financial crime strategy, influencing risk outcomes and ensuring the organisation remains well positioned to meet evolving regulatory expectations.
The Opportunity
This is a genuinely broad and influential role sitting within the second line of defence, combining strategic advisory responsibilities with governance oversight and change leadership.
Key areas of responsibility include:
- Supporting the development and execution of the enterprise financial crime strategy.
- Providing independent review, challenge and advice across financial crime risk initiatives, policy implementation and control frameworks.
- Advising on major regulatory reforms, business transformation programs and strategic projects with financial crime impacts.
- Monitoring regulatory developments, industry trends and emerging financial crime threats, translating these into practical business guidance.
- Acting as a senior escalation point and trusted advisor to business leaders and risk stakeholders.
- Supporting board and executive committee reporting, governance forums and regulatory engagement activities.
- Reviewing risk assessments across customer, product, channel and business operations to ensure risks are appropriately identified, managed and escalated.
- Driving a consistent and risk-based approach to financial crime governance across a complex enterprise environment.
We are interested in speaking with experienced financial crime professionals who can operate confidently at both strategic and operational levels.
You will likely bring:
- 8+ years' experience in financial crime compliance, financial crime risk or broader risk management.
- Strong knowledge of AML/CTF obligations and financial crime risk management frameworks.
- Experience within banking, wealth management or another highly regulated financial services environment.
- A background gained within industry, consulting, regulatory agencies, legal practice or audit.
- Demonstrated experience providing second line oversight, challenge and advisory support to senior stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of governance, risk assessment methodologies and control environments.
- Experience supporting significant regulatory change or financial crime transformation programs.
- Exceptional stakeholder management, influencing and communication skills.
- The ability to balance regulatory expectations with commercial realities and pragmatic risk outcomes.
