Our client is leading Australian Insurance group and employer of choice going through an exciting period of growth and transformation.  

They are looking for an experienced financial accountant with strong statutory reporting (IFRS) and technical accounting standards knowledge to support the Financial Controller in a number of accounting and integration projects. The projects you will focus on will be IFRS 17 implementation and also the integration of financial systems and GL following a recent acquisition.

Specific deliverables will include:

  • Working within the Insurance Financial Control team on the IFRS and AIFRS 17 Insurance Contract Project to ensure appropriate Financial Reporting systems and processes are designed, tested and implemented for the Group and Local statutory reporting in preparation for the new accounting standard requirements.
  • Ensure in depth understanding of new Insurance contract accounting standard requirements and the impacts on the future financial reporting processes including monthly close and reporting to corporate centre, review general ledger journals and general ledger reconciliations, local statutory reporting requirements.
  • Implementation of the new IFRS/AIFRS 17 Insurance Contracts accounting standard requirements for Group and Local financial reporting in conjunction with the Project timelines and deliverables.
  • Ad-hoc projects relating to insurance business initiatives and compliance matters
  • Maintain the close working relationship with the Actuarial and other Finance teams to ensure clear understanding of insurance reporting and requirements

This will initially be a 12 month fixed term contract but is likely to lead to extensions and potential permanent role beyond that.  

You will be a qualified accountant at the senior financial accountant or finance manager level with strong technical financial and statutory reporting experience within a financial services environment (preferably insurance), excellent knowledge of IFRS standards and strong communication skills.
