Senior Network Engineer – Build

12-Month Contract | Up to $1,000 per day + super
Hybrid: 2 days per week in the office Wednesday: Kogarah - Second day: Parramatta or Sydney CBD (Kent Street) — whichever is closest to home
We are seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer to join a Data Centre Networks – Build Team within a large enterprise Secure Network Services environment. This role is build-led and hands-on, supporting major data centre initiatives, network changes, and next-generation switch rollouts.
You’ll be part of a technically strong team delivering complex network builds and migrations, with increasing focus on automation uplift and modern data centre fabrics.
The Role
- Join a project-based Build Team delivering large-scale data centre initiatives
- Perform hands-on network build, configuration, and implementation
- Execute and support network changes, troubleshooting issues across Layer 1–3
- Support gateway migrations and routing domain transitions
- Contribute to uplift initiatives by identifying manual processes suitable for automation
- Work closely with engineering, architecture, and operations teams
- Cisco-centric environment (≈90%) – primary fabric and routing platform
- Next-generation DC switch project introducing Arista (≈10%)
(Arista experience is an advantage but not essential) - VXLAN / EVPN data centre fabrics
- Enterprise-grade routing and switching
Essential:
- Senior-level experience as a Network Engineer in enterprise or data centre environments
- CCIE or equivalent hands-on experience
- In-depth knowledge of:
- VXLAN & EVPN
- BGP (underlay and overlay)
- Layer 1, 2, and 3 networking
- Strong experience with network build, changes, and troubleshooting
- Proven ability to work in project-based delivery teams
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, team-first mindset
- Strong Cisco data centre experience (Nexus, NX-OS)
- Exposure to Arista switching (EOS)
- Experience with gateway migrations and VRS routing domains
- Scripting or automation exposure using:
- Python
- Ansible
- Familiarity with automation processes and mindset (even if not automation-led)
- Hands-on, delivery-focused role
- Strong emphasis on communication, teamwork, and ownership
- Engineers are trusted to design, build, change, and troubleshoot
