Ethos BeathChapman has been exclusively retained by a highly respected global financial institution to appoint a Legal Counsel to its established Australia and New Zealand legal and compliance team.
This is an outstanding opportunity for a commercially minded lawyer seeking to move into, or further develop, an in-house career within a sophisticated international financial services environment. Working closely with an experienced Head of Legal & Compliance, you will provide legal advice across a broad range of matters including insurance and reinsurance arrangements, commercial contracts, regulatory issues, strategic projects and corporate initiatives. The role will have a particular focus on supporting a life insurance business and offers exposure to senior stakeholders, regulators and external counsel.
The Opportunity
As Legal Counsel, you will play a key role in supporting business operations across Australia and New Zealand by:
- Providing legal and regulatory advice to business stakeholders across a broad range of commercial and operational matters.
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements, contracts and related documentation.
- Supporting insurance and reinsurance transactions and strategic business initiatives.
- Assisting with regulatory matters and engagement with external stakeholders, including regulators and legal advisers.
- Contributing to the development and implementation of legal and compliance frameworks.
- Identifying, assessing and escalating legal risks where appropriate.
- Supporting projects, transactions and business change initiatives across the organisation.
- Working collaboratively with legal, compliance and business teams to deliver pragmatic and commercially focused outcomes.
We are interested in speaking with lawyers who possess:
- Approximately 4-7 years' post-qualification experience.
- Experience gained within a reputable law firm and/or in-house legal team.
- Exposure to insurance, reinsurance, life insurance, corporate/commercial law or financial services regulatory matters.
- Strong drafting, research and analytical capabilities.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- The ability to balance legal risk with commercial outcomes.
- A collaborative approach and strong attention to detail.
