Our client, a leading NSW Government Department are looking for a Net Zero Specialist – energy productivity and measurement to join their team on a 12 month contract with potential for extension.

The Energy Markets team is responsible for designing the Energy Security Safeguard, which will reach more than a hundred thousand households and small businesses every year. The Safeguard Schemes will support activities from installing heat pump hot water in households through to modernisation of industrial process. From next year, the Safeguard will also expand to include the world’s first peak demand reduction scheme.

The role

In this role, you will be responsible for researching and evaluating technologies to introduce into the Safeguard and for reviewing and improving existing methods. You will be involved in streamlining and modernising the scheme and working with the energy services market to understand their needs. You will get to do deep-dive modelling and opportunity analysis on emerging technologies to catalyse new sources of energy and emissions reductions at scale. You will work autonomously across multiple projects and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.

Key knowledge, skills and experience

  • Engineering, Science, Statistics or equivalent degree
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years’ experience in technical or engineering roles, with a focus on the energy efficiency market, peak demand, distributed energy resources or energy policy development
  • Experience with the Energy Savings Scheme or other equivalent scheme, with energy efficiency technologies and demand response technologies
  • Exposure to energy consumers, technical service providers or equipment manufacturers
  • Good grasp of the market forces and technical details that influence how households and businesses consume energy
  • Experience in managing projects and actively identifying key priorities
  • Experience in deep stakeholder consultation and managing consultants
  • Strong communication skills, particularly in researching and synthesising information and presenting material confidently
  • Ability to work independently but also collaborate well in a team environment, proactively building relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Highly desirable: understanding or experience in measuring and verifying energy savings
