About the Role
This is a Hong Kong-based position within the firm's Dispute Resolution practice, working under partners with deep experience across international arbitration, ship arrest and vessel enforcement, charterparty and bill of lading disputes, P&I and marine insurance matters, trade and commodity finance disputes, and energy transition/decarbonisation work. The team acts for shipowners, P&I Clubs, banks, oil majors, and corporates across Greater China, Japan, and Southeast Asia, and regularly runs multi-jurisdictional arbitrations and enforcement actions.
Key Responsibilities
- Support partners on complex, high-value disputes and international arbitrations
- Work across contentious shipping matters — charterparties, bills of lading, sale and purchase, and vessel enforcement
- Assist on cross-border commercial and trade finance disputes
- Draft pleadings, submissions, and advice across a range of contentious matters
- Liaise directly with clients including shipowners, financial institutions, and corporates
Candidate Requirements
- 2 to 5 years PQE in commercial litigation, arbitration, or dispute resolution
- Qualified in England & Wales, Hong Kong, or an equivalent common law jurisdiction
- Strong drafting, analytical, and advocacy skills
- Shipping/maritime disputes experience is a plus — but the firm is genuinely open to strong generalist disputes lawyers looking to pivot into shipping
- Mandarin language ability would be an advantage, given the role's interaction with Mandarin-speaking clients and potential need to review or communicate on Mandarin-language matters.
