Our client is an established financial services firm with a regional footprint and a strong focus on trading, brokerage and post-trade operations. They are expanding their Applications team and are looking for their first dedicated IT Business Analyst (Trading & Settlements) to support new technology initiatives across their trading and settlement platforms.
This is not a pure documentation role. The successful candidate will partner with business users, in-house developers, external vendors and project teams to turn operational needs into clear system requirements and delivered technology changes. It would suit someone who understands how a trade moves from front office through to settlement, and who can bridge business process, system design and hands-on testing.
What you will do:
- Act as the link between business stakeholders, technology teams and vendors on trading, post-trade and settlement projects
- Understand business needs across the trade lifecycle - confirmation, affirmation, settlement, exception handling and reconciliation - and translate them into clear functional and technical specifications developers can build from
- Map current and future-state processes, including system flows, data movement and operational touchpoints
- Support new initiatives and enhancements to existing trading, back-office and settlement platforms
- Prepare user stories, acceptance criteria and test scenarios, and validate changes through UAT before go-live
- Work with operations and business users to close requirement gaps and ensure delivered solutions hold up in day-to-day use
- Support implementation, including user coordination, defect clarification and post-go-live follow-up
- Identify where workflows, systems or controls can be made more efficient
What you should have:
- At least 6 years of experience as a Business Analyst, IT Business Analyst, Systems Analyst or Implementation Analyst within financial services
- A solid grasp of the trade lifecycle, from execution through confirmation, affirmation and settlement, with the ability to trace a settlement issue back to its source
- Real depth in at least one of foreign exchange, futures or securities; exposure to more than one is an advantage
- Strong post-trade and settlement knowledge - clearing, settlement, failed trades, exceptions or reconciliation
- Able to write specifications that developers can work from directly
- Hands-on enough to write and run test scenarios; this is a BA who validates their own work, not a dedicated QA or test manager role
- Comfortable working with both in-house development teams and external vendors
- Exposure to a back-office or settlement platform is advantageous; what matters most is understanding how settlement flows work, not any one specific system
- SQL, data analysis or API and data-flow understanding is useful, though deep programming experience is not required
- Practical, adaptable, and comfortable working independently in a lean team
Why you should join them
- Come in as the first dedicated IT Business Analyst in the Applications team, with real visibility and room to shape how the function works
- Spend your time on new projects and system enhancements rather than steady-state maintenance
- Gain broad exposure across trading, settlement and post-trade technology, spanning multiple asset classes and markets rather than one narrow system
- Sit close to both business operations and technology delivery, ideal for someone who wants to own the full trade lifecycle from idea through to implementation
- Report directly to the Head of Applications, with close involvement across business and project stakeholders
