Role Overview
Our client, a reputable international law firm, is hiring an Associate or Senior Associate to join its Singapore restructuring team, working on complex cross-border debt restructurings across Asia, for corporates, sponsors, creditors and other stakeholders.
 
Title: Associate / Senior Associate, Restructuring & Insolvency
Location: Singapore (regional work across Asia-Pacific)
Reports to: Partner, Restructuring & Insolvency
Experience: Associate: 3–5 years PQE | Senior Associate: 5–8+ years PQE
Practice mix: Restructuring and insolvency, with exposure to debt finance and cross-border M&A
 
You will work closely with the partner on high-value, multi-jurisdiction restructurings involving syndicated loans, bonds and other debt. You will also support acquisition, project and other financings, and M&A and joint ventures, often for the same corporate clients. Senior Associates will run workstreams day to day and act as the main point of contact for clients and local counsel.
 
Key Responsibilities
 
Restructuring and insolvency (core practice)
  • Advise companies, sponsors, creditors and other stakeholders on cross-border debt restructurings, from early contingency planning through to implementation.
  • Draft and negotiate key documents, including restructuring support agreements, term sheets, intercreditor agreements, scheme documents and new debt and equity instruments.
  • Help run court-supervised processes such as schemes of arrangement, moratoria and judicial management, including preparing court filings and evidence.
  • Assist with the recognition of restructuring proceedings in foreign jurisdictions.
  • Research and analyse debt documents, identifying creditor rights, voting thresholds and restructuring options.
  • Coordinate local counsel and advisers across multiple jurisdictions and manage closing and implementation checklists.
  • Senior Associates: lead workstreams, attend and run parts of creditor negotiations, and supervise junior associates and trainees.

Finance and corporate
  • Draft and negotiate facility agreements and security documents for acquisition, project, receivables-backed and syndicated financings.
  • Support cross-border M&A, joint ventures and distressed acquisitions and disposals, including due diligence and transaction documents.

Team and business development
  • Prepare client updates, articles, pitch materials and directory submissions.
  • Build relationships with peers at financial advisers, turnaround firms, banks and insolvency practitioners.
  • Senior Associates: mentor junior lawyers and contribute to know-how and training.
 
Requirements 
  • Qualified in England and Wales; Singapore qualification, or eligibility to register as a foreign lawyer in Singapore, is an advantage.
  • Associate: 3–5 years' PQE. Senior Associate: 5–8+ years' PQE.
  • Restructuring and insolvency experience at an international or leading regional law firm, ideally on cross-border matters.
  • Working knowledge of syndicated loan and bond documentation, and intercreditor arrangements.
  • Exposure to at least one court-supervised restructuring process, such as a scheme of arrangement or a comparable foreign procedure (essential for Senior Associates)
