Our client is looking for a UX Designer who will report to the Design Manager, and be responsible for:
  • Determining research strategy and carrying out research activities for different aspects of the product. This is a research-heavy UX Design role.
  • Synthesising research results and generating insights.
  • Participating in design sprints. This is a fast-paced, agile environment of research, prototyping, testing and iterating.
  • Creating low to medium fidelity prototypes that reflect an understanding of design principles and web standards.
  • Testing designs with users and iterating accordingly.
  • Being a strong advocate for the user’s perspective.
  • Understanding and incorporating complex technical and business requirements into research and designs. If you don’t already know a lot about how buildings function, you will soon.
  • Working closely within our small product team to continue developing our design ops.
In six months you would have helped them with interviews and workshops to define the direction of some of their complex features and then taken ownership for the design and delivery of one of the new features in their next release.  After twelve months you will have also helped them evaluate and move some of their legacy tools onto their new platform.

A typical day could include; interviews/workshops with external assessors and/or members of their branch to work out the most important problems to solve, streamlining their internal processes, creating designs and prototypes to test with and iterate on, talking to the development team to work out the best solution and then writing the user stories to go with it.

About you:
  • Outcomes focus: figuring out what creates the most value for end users, and making sure this drives what they do in research, design and testing activities.
  • Excellent people skills, with the ability to build and maintain good relationships with key stakeholders.
  • You ask a lot of questions, and feel comfortable getting into technical details, e.g. testing ideas with mechanical engineers.
  • Minimum of 2 years UX Design experience.
  • Interest in sustainability in the built environment, and how buildings work. Previous experience in built environment or sustainability is an advantage.
Their branch is highly collaborative and consultative, and they are working on building design thinking into more and more of their projects (even outside of product development). Well-being and flexibility is important to them. They have a great office that’s located in Parramatta, but most chose to work from home. Their social committee organises fun events and everyone has a $2000.00 training budget. They usually visit the office one day per week (you can attend as much or as little that works for you).
