Responsibilities:
  • Oversees and directs the facilities' pathology program, implements initiatives to address business and regulatory submission requirements by use of state-of-the-art pathology methods/techniques.
  • Develop and coach junior veterinarian(s), participate in the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) in the review of animal protocols, advise the IACUC and other staff on animal health issues, animal treatment, anesthetics and analgesics
  • Ensure all animal care staff and scientist handling animals are trained in the responsible care and use of laboratory animals in accordance with NACLAR Guidelines and internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), including animal handling and restraint, anaesthesia, euthanasia, etc. and to provide ad-hoc training as requested.
  • Ensure continual compliance with AAALAC on animal care and use matters and assisting in the preparation of the Animal Care and Use Program for AAALAC submission.
  • Be the main contact point for the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority or other related regulatory bodies, AAALAC and other laboratory animal specific organizations and provide updates as and when required.
  • Coordinating, planning and managing the AAALAC and AVA inspections and assisting with GLP audits, as required.
  • Oversee and direct the facilities' pathology program, including management of the histopathologist, implementing initiatives to address business and regulatory submission requirements by use of state-of-the-art pathology methods/techniques.
  • Participate in the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee as the attending veterinarian by reviewing animal care and use protocols, policies and SOP's and advising on animal health issues related to studies.
  • Monitor and control laboratory animal-related supplies, including animal shipments, import and export of animal tissues, health screening, medication, controlled drugs, consumables, and other equipment as requested.
  • Assist animal care staff as and when required, to include planning, preparing rooms for studies, preparing cages and equipment and assisting in conducting measurements and animal observations in accordance with study plan requirements.
  • Assist treatment technicians, scientists and coordinators as and when required and to prepare reports as and when required.
  • Liaise with the internal Animal Welfare Committee (AWC) on animal numbers and statistics.
  • Provide daily observation and assessment of animal care and health and providing medical treatment for animals or euthanasia, where applicable.

Requirements:
  • A degree in Veterinary Science or Veterinary Medicine
  • AVA fully registered / registerable veterinarian.
  • Good technical skills and extensive hands-on experience in working with rodents in non-clinical studies.
  • Initiative and interest to learn new experimental techniques.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Excellent people management skills
