Our client is a global insurance group with a rapidly growing presence in the Australia and NZ region.  They have an excellent brand in the market and a reputation as one of the most flexible and progressive employers in the financial services market. As a business they are going through significant positive change and transformation and as such they are looking for a senior finance professional with an insurance background to backfill for their current financial controller while they go on an initial 10 month secondment (could extend)

Reporting to GM Finance you will be responsible for leading a large team of financial control and accounting professionals in delivering all financial control, statutory and regulatory reporting and group head office reporting activities whilst driving significant financial process improvement and change. 

Deliverables will include:
  • Lead and develop medium / large team of financial accountants (includes 2 senior finance managers, accountants and senior accountants)
  • Design, establish, maintain and continually improve policies, operating procedures, internal controls and processes around financial control and reporting 
  • Deliver quarterly and annual APRA returns and insurance accounting deliverables
  • Deliver IFRS and group reporting to head office
  • Stakeholder management of a range of stakeholders (GM and Australian CFO, actuaries, external auditors, FP&A and management reporting function)
  • Involvement in major transformation and change project (from a finance perspective)

This is a great opportunity for a Senior Finance Leader from the insurance sector to join a blue chip global insurer in a senior role.  Although this role is unlikely to go permanent in its current form it may extend and as the group is going through significant growth and change other opportunities may well open up for the right candidate. 

Required skills and experience:
  • CA/CPA qualified with 10 years post qualified experience including a minimum of 5 years in a leadership level role
  • Deep experience in and understanding of the insurance sector (life, general or reinsurance would be considered) 
  • Strong financial, statutory and regulatory reporting experience within the insurance sector
  • Strong track record of process improvement
  • Proven experience in developing and leading medium or large finance teams 
  • Superb presentation and stakeholder management experience
