Our client is a leading Australian financial services group with one of the most recognisable brands in the Australian market.  They are one of Australia's leading employers with a superb reputation as an employer and great working culture.

Due to an long term internal secondment they have an opportunity for a CA/CPA qualified Senior accountant to join their statutory and regulatory reporting team for life insurance in an initial 12 month contract.  Reporting into the Financial Controller you will focus on:

  • Responsibility of completing preparation of statutory accounts for a number of life insurance entities at full year and half year as required, with the support of an offshore team
  • Review of monthly AFSL requirements for licensed entities
  • Responsibility for the completion of monthly and quarterly prudential and statistical returns (APRA, RBA, ABS), with the support of an offshore team
  • Perform analytical reviews and respond to queries from the external local regulators (APRA, RBA, ABS) on a timely basis
  • Proactively identify regulatory change and recommend and advise management/senior management accordingly
  • Continuously seeking out means to streamline and improve the reporting processes, engaging the Business counterparts in order to do so
  • Enhance and improve documentation around existing processes within the team
  • Assist in drafting board and audit committee papers on accounting and regulatory policy changes
  • Involvement in IFRS 17 implementation project
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships within the Statutory and Regulatory Reporting team as well as with counterparts in the broader Finance (Financial Control, Tax Accounting, Group Tax, Decision Support and Business Performance/Partnering)

This is a great opportunity for a technically astute financial/senior financial accountant with strong statutory and regulatory reporting experience to join a high profile finance team.  You will either be a CA from Big 4 / Top 10 audit firm with insurance or financial services clients (life insurance would be of particular relevance) or be a financial/senior financial accountant in an insurance or financial services group. In addition you will have excellent communication and presentation skills.

The initial contract will be initially for 12 months (FTC) but with a strong probability to roll on for a second year and potential lead to permanent.
