Objective of the Role

The role of Analytics Portfolio Manager is to lead the uplift of Internal Audit (IA) delivery and planning using Data Analytics (DA). Analytics can be used to drive planning, gain business insight and optimise the review lifecycle.
The role offers exposure to the operations across the Suncorp group and provides the opportunity to develop and maintain long lasting relationships with stakeholders and to contribute to taking Suncorp’s Risk Analytics capabilities to the next level.
Key Accountabilities
  • Deliver reliable assurance on the adequacy and effectiveness of the control environment with respect to the portfolios which DA is providing its services to support.
  • Contribute to the development of the Suncorp internal audit plan, with specific responsibility for the development of the IA DA program. This will include capacity planning for both BAU audit delivery and strategic initiatives.
  • Oversee the delivery of concurrent IA DA work (in accordance with Suncorp IA Methodology, agreed budgets and timeframes), including:
    • Managing and overseeing the timely delivery of IA DA work and providing regular status updates to the relevant Audit Portfolio Manager.
    • Directing and reviewing scope, testing, workpapers and observations for DA related work.
    • Articulating key data observations using clear and concise verbal and written communication. This includes the effective use of data visualisation to generate relevant, meaningful and impactful insights.
    • Acting as the conduit between IA and CDTO in relation to data acquisition and escalation.
    • Keeping the EM Risk Analytics informed regarding the status of audits in progress. This includes any blockers, concerns, key insights, and learnings which may impact Risk Analytics more broadly.
  • Lead the implementation of the IA DA strategy to continuously improve the integration of DA in IA, strengthen testing procedures, and contribute to the overall uplift of IA processes. Provide regular updates to the EM Risk Analytics on the progress of this and contribute the continued evolution of the IA and Risk Analytics strategy.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and continuous improvement of IA and more broadly the Risk function through teamwork, innovation, effective management of services and resources, and input into strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborate across the broader Risk community and provide advice and guidance, coaching and mentoring to team members to uplift data analysis capability by:
    • Preparing and delivering DA training.
    • Identifying DA related skill gaps and designing and implementing relevant training to share skills and expertise.
    • Delivering timely, direct and effective feedback to contribute to ongoing development.
    • Sharing knowledge and uplifting the IA DA brand by showcasing completed work.
  • Attract, coach, develop and manage diverse, flexible and distributed teams in an inclusive way, while showing genuine care in managing an environment of safety and wellbeing. 
Key Stakeholder Relationships
  • Internal Audit to influence on the use of DA and initiate action on analysis findings through reasoning and application of rational arguments, and, as part of contributing to the effective operation of the Three Lines of Defence Model within Suncorp.
  • Maintain appropriate and effective working relationships with the Chief Data & Transformation Office and business stakeholders to facilitate data acquisition and process understanding.
Key job requirements

Qualifications (indicate whether mandatory or desired)

  • STEM or Commerce qualification will be highly regarded
Experience (minimum type and level of experience required to perform the role)
  • Demonstrated relevant experience, typically upward of eight years.
  • Proven experience in mentoring, developing and inspiring a high performing team.
  • Extensive experience across the analytics process: problem definition- solution design- data extraction, cleansing and validation- codification of testing / modelling- debugging- technical review- consolidation and output of results- communication of findings / insights.
  • Experience in leveraging data visualisation to explore data and communicate findings
  • Technical experience in SQL Server / Netezza or Python, and/or an understanding of database structures for core financial and operational systems is desired but not essential.
  • Experience working in Financial Services and/or Risk is beneficial.
Key Capabilities/Technical Competencies (skills, knowledge, technical or specialist capabilities)
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of accounting and/or auditing and/or risk management.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including being able to liaise with both technical and business stakeholders to request information, articulate findings and to translate needs into requirements.
  • Advanced problem solving and analytical skills together with effective decision-making capabilities.
  • Strong planning, organisation, delivery and people management capabilities.
