Our client is one of the leading insurers in Australia.  In addition they are an employer of choice offering a progressive working environment including flexible working hours, great work life balance, ability to work from home one day a week and an agile working model.

Due to an internal secondment they have an opportunity for a qualified accountant to join their financial accounting and control team in a pivotal position.  Reporting into the Senior Finance Manager you will focus on delivery of month end and GL related activities as well as providing financial insights. Specific deliverables will include:
  • Prepare month end journals for all companies within the group; including expenses, manual provisions, ALSL legacy products, new transactions such as internal reinsurance and others
  • Analyse and challenge information recorded in the general ledger to ensure that the balance sheets for each entity, company and the Group as a whole, are complete and accurate 
  • Collaborate with the Treasury & Recs team, Financial management and actuarial teams to ensure completeness, accuracy, transparency and understanding of the monthly result of each entity
  • Execute the month end General ledger close process including tracking & updating the timetable to ensure a smooth and efficient month end close; engage with stakeholders as required
  • Actively take part in the accounting for new & complex transactions; liaising with other finance teams (reporting, tax, actuarial, reinsurance) as well as other business units
  • Provide finance support to projects in the business
  • Actively take part in and look for opportunities for process simplification and optimisation; continuously assess opportunities for efficiency's & improvements in the team’s processes and support those activities
  • Assist with the conversion of offshore processes back onshore and help prepare associated documentation
  • Maintain a relationship with Finance stakeholders to facilitate the exchange of finance information as required

This is a great opportunity for a financial accountant with insurance or financial services experience to join one of Australia's leading insurers.  Although this role will initially be a fixed term contract until the end of 2020 the finance team is large and growing so there is a strong chance of a permanent opportunity for a high performer.

Required skills and experience:

  • CA/CPA qualified with at least 1-2 years post qualified experience in financial accounting
  • Strong hands on financial accounting and control experience
  • Experience within the insurance sector (life or general).  Financial Services would also be considered
  • Previous process improvement / streamlining would be advantageous
  • Strong communication skills
