Meet Benjamin, who wants to be best in the business

Benjamin has an adventurous streak. Ask him how he hitchhiked from London to Tangiers, and later followed his heart to Hong Kong in 2015. Two years into his recruitment career, this plucky consultant inadvertently pit himself against Nick Pelling of EBC, the leading headhunter amongst financial markets technology, data and software providers in Asia.

Benjamin Gove, EBC

Realising Nick would make a far better mentor than competitor, when the opportunity arose within EBC’s Hong Kong office, Ben was quick to put himself forward. Apart from Nick’s mentorship, Ben was also drawn to the overall seniority of the wider EBC team, their strong network and platform for progression within the business.

As a high performer from his old firm, Ben was humbled to realise the calibre of his new co-workers. Not only is EBC is a super high performing team where performance is recognised and rewarded, the company also has a high level of integrity, with its leaders leading by example.

He cited Matt Beath (co-founder of EBC) among other senior managers as examples.

What’s the best thing about working at EBC?
The close-knit team where everyone gets along well. There’s no politics here. And of course, the opportunity to work among the best in the business.

Would he just as wholeheartedly recommend EBC to his friends?
Apart from the benefit of working with me (Ben says in jest), I would give them the same reason I gave to myself. Be a part of a pioneering team within a growing venture. This is a company that matches up to their ambition. And a great place to be.

What kind of person would thrive here?
Mature, competitive, organised, responsible and motivated people. No one will be on your case, hound or micromanage you. You need to take ownership. I'd say 'competitive' because you don’t want to be at the bottom of the pack!

His advice to new joiners:
Make yourself known, talk to people, observe, and never be afraid to ask for help
